Component I (UBC TAs and Markers) has a Hardship Fund. This fund is maintained by our union specifically for the purpose of assisting members experiencing financial hardship. For example, in the past, this fund has supported members taking a medically required leave of absence.
Due to the global pandemic, many of our members were unable to return to Canada for the start of the 2020-2021 academic year and therefore were unable to take up TA/marker positions. The Covid Hardship fund helped TAs who were in a situation of financial hardship because of this.
